SPRINTER
The group came into being when Mirkwood ended in mid-1976. I had been playing a lot of jazz in between Mirkwood gigs over the last two or three years and Jack had now decided to join a dance band playing functions. After five years of playing our own compositions, everybody it seems felt the need to do something different and for a while Sprinter was part of the answer. Saxophonist Mick Murray was recruited, Derek started to play more flute and my electric piano was rescued from the spare room. Sprinter played a lot of Steely Dan but their repertoire also included material from sources as diverse as Glen Campbell and Duke Ellington! The group lasted until 1978.
